Last year’s “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” struck a chord among horror fans. Apparently, the film struck it just hard enough to warrant a follow-up.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the 2019 sleeper hit got the green light from Paramaount Pictures and eOne Entertainment. Much of the creative team behind the first film return, too — with Guillermo Del Toro providing the story and André Øvredal directing the screenplay co-written by Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman.
The new movie, like its predecessor, will take after Alvin Schwartz’s eponymous horror story collection.
Øvredal’s film managed to rake in $105 million worldwide and a considerably warm critical reaction, which makes it easy to understand the studios’ enthusiasm to get a sequel made.
